        Groundhog – Breaking News...

Tune in on Thursday February 2nd to find out if Phil saw his shadow or not! Will we have six more weeks of Winter? Will Spring be right around the corner? Will anyone remember which one it means if he does or doesn't see his shadow???

(I can never remember!) *

Trike A Thon for St. Jude Children's Hospital

On Friday February 10th Noah's Ark will be participating in the annual Trike A Thon to help raise funds for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Please keep your eyes open for an envelope in your child's file, it will contain information and a permission slip that will need to be returned so that your child may participate. Please include any donations for St. Jude in the envelope, and hand it in by the morning of February 10th as this event will take place during your child's outside time that morning. As always, if you wish for your child to participate and this is not their designated day to attend school, you may bring them and stay with them during this event!

Valentine’s Day Celebrations

Please be advised by your child’s teacher what kind of celebration (and on what day) they will host for Valentine’s Day. If your child chooses to bring Valentine’s Day cards in for their classmates, please have your child sign their name on each card instead of addressing them individually to friends. (It takes a really long time to deliver specific Valentines.) If you choose to send in treats to share, please remember that they are to be store-bought and not homemade - and save the candy for your sweetheart at home!

Please take note that Noah’s Ark will be CLOSED February 20, 2017 to observe President’s Day.

School Garden

Garden Masters from the University of Florida will be returning on 2/17 to help us begin planting in the school garden that was so generously donated by UF and built last month by all of us! This will be a “salsa” garden. Items such as peppers, onions and tomatoes will be planted. We will all carefully tend to our garden, so that when everything is ripe and ready to be picked, we will be able to make homemade salsa out of what we grew! How cool (or hot, maybe?) will that be! We will also have a visit from UF's Ms. Kathy on 2/24 to talk to the children about nutrition and exercise, with the “Grow it, Try it, Like it!” program!

School and Home Connection

Parents - there are so many ways to help your child grow and develop at home, as you are your child’s first and BEST teacher.  You don’t need special training to be able to expose the world to your child!  This month, make it a point to stop into our public library in town and let your child pick out books to read with you. Reading aloud to your child reinforces multiple language skills, pre-reading skills, and teach valuable lessons...all while making memories, which is priceless!

Kindergarten Bound in August? Read on!

VPK families have a choice to attend the school they are zoned for, to sign up for a (free) charter school option, or to choose a school outside the predetermined zoning area to best fit your child’s needs. Information can be found on the Sarasota School Board website: under “Students and Parents”. School choice is only for a limited time at the beginning of February! As we get more information for kindergarten round-up nights, we will let you know!

Is Your Current Student Ready For VPK Next School Year?

*Pssst...If the groundhog sees his shadow it means six more weeks of Winter!
