1 Corinthians 12:3-13 Gifts

Passage is the first section of Paul's three chapters teaching about spiritual gifts and their importance in Christian communities.

Begins with stating what should be obvious but can often be overlooked: spiritual gifts come from the Holy Spirit, they are not a person's birthright or property.

Spiritual gifts are distributed among the members of the community of faith for the common good-to build up the whole family of believers.

There are different gifts with different constructive purposes for that group of people who are a local expression of the Body of Christ. There is interdependence among the members of the Body. We need each other.

At this time of "I can't breath" following the killing of George Floyd in MN, resulting in protests and violence, in police and even military response, this is a time when I need to be reminded, when we need to be aware, that we need each other as followers of Jesus we depend on one another, gifts to carry out God's mission.
