1 Peter 3:13-22 Gentle Accounting

Verses are part of a larger passage that addresses a situation in which the epistle writer encourages the readers to keep their faith and live in a manner pleasing to God even when they face suffering and mistreatment.

So suffering, as Christ suffered, for doing right is the overall theme, but the part of the text that captures my attention in verses 15&16 "...Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and reverence."

Such a striking sentence to me. It calls me to be ready to share my story of finding hope in Jesus. And to do that accounting in a way that is gentle and even reverent of the other person-their faith, their life, their perspective.

So to love that idea of a gentle accounting of my relationship with Christ that treats those with whom I have the opportunity to share with reverence-trusting that God is at work in them according to the Lord's plan.
