John 14:15-21 June 22, 2020

John 14:15-21 Keepers

Text is part of Jesus' lengthy teaching to his disciples during their last supper (John 13-17). These verses are part of a section in which Jesus promises the disciples concerning the Holy Spirit, who he will send to be with them and guide them when Jesus is gone.

For me, a striking idea in these verses is the repeated connection made between loving him and keeping his commandments.

He says it in verse 15 and verse 21, and the most recent commandment Jesus gave the disciples was in chapter 13:34, "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, love one another."

Wondering what it means for me, what it looks like in my life to live in this connection between loving Jesus by being embodied by me loving others-especially other brothers and sisters in Christ, as he loves them?

Lord, make me a keeper of your simple commandment that can be so difficult to live out day to day.
