Numbers 11:24-30 July 9, 2020

Numbers 11:24-30 Elders

Interesting few verses that are part of larger account of the Israelites complaining in the desert that manna was all they had to eat. They pined away for their time in Egypt and all the variety of food they had to eat.

Moses felt the burden of leading all these people through the desert and even asked God to take his life to remove the burden.

But the Lord promised meat for a month, in addition to the manna, and had Moses assemble 70 elders of the people with him at the tent of meeting.

That's where our verses pick up: the Lord descended on a cloud and spoke to Moses and put a portion of the spirit from Moses on the elders. In addition, two other men who remained in camp prophesied. Seems to be lots of leadership lessons to explore in this text: how did Moses know the 70 were elders; the importance of shared leadership; why did the 70 elders only prophesy once; were the two men who prophesied in camp unrecognized elders?

Lord teach me your truth from this text.
