Psalm 31 June 8, 2020

Pastor Bruce Hedgepeth

Psalm 31 Preserved

This Psalm is an extended cry for God's deliverance from enemies. In the situation of feeling threatened, persecuted and attacked, the psalmist uses powerful descriptions for the Lord's protection: refuge, rock, strong fortress, shelter.

It is a word near the end of the psalm that is part of a promise that caught my attention: preserves.

Verse 23 reads "Love the Lord, all you his saints, the Lord preserves the faithful.....

Psalmist, after rehearsing all the threats and dangers and difficulties posed by enemies and adversaries, holds out this promise that God will preserve his saints despite all the dangers and threats and challenges.

O God, find me faithful with your saints, preserve me and my house in the face of all the dangers and threats and forces of division we are facing.

Preserve your faithful church as a witness of your love and grace and power over any other power on earth and under the earth.

Preserve us, O God, be our refuge, our fortress, our rock, our rock, our shelter on these difficult times.

Amen
