Psalm 66:8-20 June 20, 2020

Pastor Bruce Hedgepeth

Psalm 66:8-20 Offering

Passage begins with the psalmist recounting the troubles God has allowed his peoples to experience: you have tested us, tried us as silver is tried; brought us in the net, laid burdens on our back; let people ride over us, took us through fire and water.

But there is also praise for God's deliverance from those troubles; bless our God, let the sound of his praise be heard; he has kept us among the living; he has not leet our feet slip, he has brought us out to a spacious place.

Therefore the psalmist is moved to respond to God's deliverance with offerings: burnt offerings, pay my vows made in times of trouble. smoke of sacrifice of rams, offerings of bulls and goats.

Word for me in these days is to cry out to the Lord in this time of trouble. We can trust in God's goodness and deliverance from COVID-19. Let me, O God, let us O Lord, follow the psalmist's example and praise you with our offerings: words, songs, prayers, gifts.

Thank you, bless you, Lord, for your deliverance.
