 Biographical Sketch, July 2010

I was born December 14, 1950 in New York, New York.  My parents emigrated from Puerto Rico after World War II.  I was baptized, raised, and educated a Catholic.  For a time I considered the priesthood while studying at a Benedictine Seminary in Collegeville, MN.  Upon completion of required studies at St. Helena's High School, Bronx, New York, I entered Baruch College for a degree in accounting.  However, after completing only one year, I was drafted by the Army.  But instead, I enlisted into the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era.  After serving proudly for nearly seven years in the Air Force, I entered Lee College in 1977.  (This was soon after I felt the call to go into ministry while stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines.)  From there I received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Christian Education in 1979.  Later the same year I entered the Church of God Theological Seminary in Cleveland, Tennessee.  I graduated in July 1982 with a Master of Divinity degree.

Upon graduation from the Church of God Theological Seminary I was appointed pastor of the Ayer Church of God in Ayer, Ma.  At the same time I was commissioned a 1Lt. in the USAF Reserve Chaplain Corps.  Late in 1982 and during 1983 I served as an associate pastor/school director at the Plant City Church of God in Plant City, FL. Beginning in January 1984 I was commissioned on active duty as a Navy Chaplain.

In the Navy I proudly served as chaplain from early 1984 until my retirement in 1998.  Each of these tours of duty were rewarding and fulfilling as a minister of the Gospel.  I retired from serving in the military, both in the reserves and active duty, for nearly thirty years.  I am proud to say that I wore uniforms from four branches of services:  the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps.

Since retirement in 1998 from the military, I have served as a social worker, an associate pastor, a designated pastor, pulpit supply, and an interim pastor.  I am currently the full call pastor here at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.

In 2002 I earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, South Hamilton, MA.  I have served with gratefulness and joy as a minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbytery of Tampa Bay, the Presbytery of Wyoming, and now the Peace River Presbytery.

My wife, Margaret, and I have been married for 48 years.  We have two grown daughters, four grandsons and one granddaughter.

We love to travel.  Two of our favorite places are Hawaii and Italy.  I also love to spend quiet time camping and reading.

Catherine came to us in November 2018 from Northport, New York.  (How about that..)

Catherine wanted to be in a warmer climate for retirement.  Catherine had served  as Director of Music  at a Presbyterian Church in New York for 15 years. In addition, she was a private piano teacher preparing her students for recitals and state and national competition.

Catherine fit right in with the choir.  They worked very hard pulling together some special music for Advent and Christmas.

We are looking forward to a year of worship with Catherine.

I have been a resident of North Port and the vicinity for 30 plus years and have been living and working right here!  I am very blessed to have my mother here, and my husband's son and family close by.  We enjoy our Florida lifestyle, spending a lot of time outdoors.  I love this church and my church family!  I am excited to be a part of the team that shares the Good Word with our community.  I have watched North Port grow and we have a lot of community events to participate in.
